A Certified Professional Soil Scientist is a accredited professional who has achieved the Standards for Professionals in Soil Science, set by the Australian Society of Soil Science Inc and had approved by the CPSS Accreditation Board 50 hours of professional development in soil science for the year. Integral to CPSS accreditation is an on-going commitment to keeping up-to-date with new knowledge, technology and industry developments.
Accreditation as a CPSS requires compliance with the ASSSI Code of Ethics, a public statement of the principles, values and behaviour expected of Members of the Australian Society of Soil Science Inc. and the CPSS Rules of Conduct. The Rules of Conduct are an interpretation and expansion of the Code of Ethics and cover the areas of Professional and personal conduct, Competence, Conflict of interest, Confidentiality, Client relationships, Advertising, Inducement for the introduction of clients, Departure provisions and the Profession of soil science.
CPSS's are recognised by their professional body as professionals who continually expand their knowledge and skills throughout their career, by seeking professional development opportunities. ASSSI members are eligible for CPSS accreditation if they meet the entry level requirements, undertake 50 or more hours of ongoing professional development every year and exercise expertise in soil science in two or more of the five core professional capabilities:
